A fragile start that both conditions

At birth, calves lose heat very quickly through the floor. Because their thermoregulation is still immature, they must use valuable energy reserves just to maintain body temperature.

The consequences are immediate: weaker immunity, a higher risk of diarrhea, and slower early growth that can be difficult to catch up later.

Studies are clear: a calf that gets a strong start becomes a heifer that will produce more milk and remain productive for longer.

Thermal comfort directly supports increase

Every gram of average daily gain (ADG) matters. Scientific projections suggest that providing a stable, temperate environment could increase performance by 200 to 350 g of additional ADG per day. The result: faster weaning, stronger health foundations, and fewer medical treatments.

It is also an economic issue. Healthier calves mean fewer losses and, ultimately, a more productive herd.

Bringing Bioret Agri’s expertise from cows to calves

For more than 20 years, we have developed solutions to help dairy cows cope with heat stress: Aquastar waterbeds, Aquaclim conductive cooling, and Cyclone 360° ventilation.

Building on this expertise, the company developed CalfCare Thermofloor: a low-temperature hydronic heated floor specifically designed for calf nurseries and calf pens.

How does it work?

The principle is simple and robust: a closed loop of tempered water, embedded in an insulating foam layer, keeps the surface between 18 and 22 °C — the calf’s thermal neutral zone.
